What is DNS?
The Domain Name System (DNS) translates human-readable domain names (like google.com) into IP addresses that computers use to identify each other on the network.
DNS Explained
DNS (Domain Name System) is the internet's phone book. When you type 'google.com' in your browser, DNS translates that human-readable name into an IP address (like 142.250.80.46) that computers use to communicate. DNS is a distributed system with a hierarchy of servers: root servers, TLD servers (.com, .org), and authoritative servers for specific domains. DNS also handles email routing (MX records), service verification (TXT records for SPF/DKIM), and load balancing (multiple A records). At M3L Software, DNS management is part of our tech maintenance service. We handle domain setup, DNS configuration, email deliverability (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), and CDN integration for optimal performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens when DNS goes down?
If DNS fails, users can't reach your website by domain name. DNS caching helps temporarily, but extended outages cause full downtime. Use multiple DNS providers and monitor DNS health.
How long do DNS changes take?
DNS propagation typically takes 15 minutes to 48 hours, depending on TTL (Time to Live) settings and caching. Lower TTL values mean faster propagation but more DNS lookups.
What DNS records do I need?
At minimum: A record (pointing to your server IP), CNAME for www, MX records for email, and TXT records for domain verification and email security (SPF, DKIM).
